Arts education is not so much about getting students to come up with the right answers, but rather, inspiring them to wonder and training them to ask better and better questions. Starting with the question, what might be meaningfully written on a nanoimprinted biomedical silk film sensor implanted in the body and why, Jen Bervin discusses how she approached her research process for The Silk Poems, a complex project that took her to silk bioengineering and nanofabrication labs, medical libraries, textile centers, sericulture farms, archives and museums all over the world. She’ll also show what the drafting and editing process looks like as she prepares the piece for the exhibition “Explode Everyday: A Philosophical Inquiry into the Phenomena of Wonder” at MASS MoCA in May 2016.
