Smith College Campus School
I am an artist educator with over 20 years experience teaching art to ages K-college. Currently, I teach K-6 art and mentor student teachers at the Smith College Campus School in Northampton, MA. During the summer I travel to public festivals/venues with the Wandering Carnival Art Truck and its interactive sculptures.

In summer 2005, I attended a K-12 educator’s workshop sponsored by the Smith College Engineering Department. In this workshop I discovered the inspiring world of MIT’s lifelong kindergarten lab. Here the connection between engineering and art became clear. Since then I have been exploring the overlaps of the engineering cycle and the creative process in many of my K-6 art units.

In 2004, I received an ART award grant funding construction of my truck show and mandating me to design related curriculum. I wrote art units that use human anatomy to understand kinetic sculpture; experiment with surprising structures (bridges, towers and other strong 3d forms made of only paper and tape); and explore the transformation of vehicles in popular cultures around the world.

MFA, School of Visual Arts, New York, NY 1993. The focus of my master’s project was creating (and testing!) interactive street art and outfits in NYC.
